Alaska Hydraulics is Alaska's largest locally owned fluid power company. With a specialty in custom solutions, Alaska Hydraulics will diagnose system issues, repair existing equipment or source new components. Over the years, we've become a trusted provider to Alaskans as we've guided their projects from concept to reality. Our skilled staff can help with technical design, manufacturing, testing, and implementation.

Our History

Alaska Hydraulics Inc was founded in 1976 and in 1995 Tom Loran and Michelle Johnston purchased the company.

Growing with Alaska, they established stores in Anchorage, Dutch Harbor, and Kodiak. Upon Tom’s passing in March, 2020, the Anchorage shop became the sole Alaska Hydraulics store. In November 2021, Kenny Overvold and Leo Nadeau bought Alaska Hydraulics.

Today Alaska Hydraulics is a service and supply maintenance and overhaul facility located in Anchorage. We support all Alaskan industry including; the Alaska Railroad, Oil and Gas, Mining, Construction, Marine, Aviation ground support, and the U.S. Military.

We are committed to providing solutions for our customers fluid power needs. Our ambitious and driven hydraulic specialists and experienced repair technicians supply the best availability of local service. Due in part to their hard work and determination we treat deadlines with the utmost respect and don’t believe in excuses or exceptions.

Our Family

Kenny Overvold, President

Kenny Overvold has worked in the Alaska Oilfield for 25+ years. He worked on drilling rigs on the North Slope and Offshore Cook Inlet to put himself through college obtaining a degree in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University. Returning to Alaska , he went back to rigs and worked for Kuukpik Drilling for 16 years, moving up through the ranks to eventually become General Manager until October 2019. In November 2020, Kenny and Leo purchased Alaska Hydraulics.

Sean “Leo” Nadeau, Equity Partner

Sean “Leo” Nadeau brings nearly 22+ years of Management experience to Alaska Hydraulic. A successful businessman in the aviation industry, from his beginnings in the parts market to portfolio management, with a specialized technical focus on landing gear and engine assets. He has earned his experience in privately held aviation companies, learning the most effective way to maintain a portfolio of assets and generating cash flow.  Leo maintained a 15-year historical performance of $25,000,000 plus in annual revenue. Self-directed, Leo has thrived in his career by successfully monetizing distressed or underperforming assets.

Steve Herold, Sales Manager

Steve began his hydraulic career in 1972 in Portland, Oregon working for Fluid Air Components, Inc. (FAC) as shop technician. By 1980, he had moved to shop foreman, then outside services and sales, then in 1987, Steve setup FAC repairs in Dutch Harbor, and then became GM of FAC in Tukwila, Washington. In 1993, Steve left FAC to start his own company, Frontier Fluid Power, Inc in Dutch Harbor, AK. In 1998 Frontier Fluid Power was purchased by Alaska Hydraulics. In 2006, Steve was returned to manage Alaska Hydraulics in Anchorage, helping establish the reputation that Alaska Hydraulic stills carriers.

Steve Young, Shop Foreman

Steve began his hydraulic career in 2003 with DTS Fluid Power managing the mechanic department. Moving from a managerial role in 2006, Steve began to specialize within the field handing key production lines and proposal production while working with West Elk Coal Mine, and then Oxbow Mining in Somerset, CO. In 2013, Steve moved to Juneau, AK working with Couer Kensington diagnosing and rebuilding a variety of drills, assisting in equipment overhauls and handling welding projects. In 2019, Young was hired at Alaska Hydraulic as shop mechanic, then becoming foreman in 2020.

Jim Loftis, Branch Manager

Jim began his career in the hydraulic industry 2002 at the family owned Jackovich Parker Store in Anchorage, Alaska. Jim started out at the ground level making hydraulic hoses and within one year was promoted to Store Manager. In this capacity he was responsible purchasing, inventory control, new product implementation, and personnel management. After 7 successful years, Jim was Promoted to Branch Manager for Jackovich at their main store in Anchorage Alaska.

In September 2011, Jim left Alaska to join the team at Precision Hydraulic Technology based in Odessa, Texas. Within six months Jim was promoted to Store Manager at their Parker Store in Odessa. One year later he was moved to take over their Parker Store in Midland, Texas. Next Jim was promoted to Product Specialist, where he was responsible for managing inventory at customer locations and technical product identification. In January 2016, Jim was again promoted at Precision, this time to Outside Sales, covering West Texas and East New Mexico. In early 2020 he decided to move his family back to Alaska and January 2021, Jim joined the Alaska Hydraulics team.
